“Are you afraid of the things that go bump in the night? That’s me.” ~Arieta DeKars
Name: Arieta Lavine DeKars
Nickname: Arieta, Ari
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Looks: After using her shape-shifting ability, Ari’s hair will always go back to its normal color of jet black, though stripes of color from whatever color feline she just became sometimes spring into the locks, like orange from a tiger, tawny from a lion, etc. Her eyes have the abnormal pupils of a cat all the time, slits in the light and large orbs in the dark, though the iris is an intense violet color. Her skin is normally fairly tanned, though in the winter it is paler. She has the body of a dancer and a gymnast, since that was always her hobby as a young child.
Theme Song (Optional):
Personnel or Patient: Patient
Species (personnel must be human): Feline shape-shifter and dark elemental
Personality (at least 1 paragraph): Arieta isn’t someone you want to meet in a dark alley late at night unless you happen to be one of her few friends. Not at all friendly on first meetings, Ari seems distant and icy. This has mainly to do with the way she grew up, other children shunning her for her being different, and Ari in turn trying not to show that this bothered her. Though she has a rather tough outer shell, Ari is soft inside, her own wants, to be loved and cared about, only shown in the poems she writes late in the evenings. Tears are rarely shown in her eyes, as she found out early in childhood that crying was for those who had no idea what else to do. Fighting seems to be another hobby of Ari’s, as she was always getting into trouble when she was young, easily provoked, though she has since tried to learn to control her temper.
History (at least 1 paragraph): Born into a well to do family in a bustling urban city, Arieta was seen as different as a very young child. Girls her age feared the dark and begged for nightlights, Ari tore it out of the wall when her parents tried to give her one. As she grew older, Ari could maneuver quickly and quietly to a point where she could be in the room as you were talking about her and you would not notice until she spoke. When she was seven years old, her mother decided to enter Ari into ballet and gymnastics as a way to praise her lithe abilities. Ari wanted friends and tried to make them, but other girls wanted nothing to do with her, so Ari became a loner. Once at gymnastics practice, a girl pushed Arieta when they were on the balance beam. Ari went tumbling and landed on her feet and glared at the girl, who now looked scared and quickly jumped off, just as Ari lunged for her. At the age of fourteen, Arieta was still seen as abnormal as she quickly moved past her classmates in each activity and into areas that were taught to woman at least six years older then her. It was at a recital for ballet at fifteen that her first accident happened. The lights were too bright and blinding her, so Ari asked the instructor to dim them. Her request was denied and on stage, she flicked her wrist at the lights, hoping to block them from her sensitive eyes. This motion sent a ball of black energy hurtling at the light, making it explode in a burst of sparks. From that moment on, Arieta was home schooled as well as forbidden to continue dance or gymnastics. It was during these two years that Ari found that she was given her other gift of shifting, making for many late night explorations. It was after she was brought home at around four in the morning after starting a fight that her parents, no longer able to control their daughter, sent her to the “special” school.
